Sustainable Agriculture for Us and the Future

THE NEW GREENHOUSE

Abstract
Over the past years, the weather has been changing for the worst and with an increasing population this is putting pressure on the field of Agriculture to produce more food. The bad weather conditions are showing no signs of alleviating anytime soon. On the contrary to the goal of sustainability, more land is being cleared for farming and this has untold devastating effects on the already changing weather. This research project seeks to make farming sustainable by making farming less dependent on external conditions like sunlight, rain, atmospheric temperature and humidity.* It is theorized that with artificial control and automation: we can farm virtually anyway be it in buildings or shade prone areas; we can recycle over 80% of the water used for irrigation; and also introduce vertical farming which is problematic now due to shading, with hopes of increasing yield per unit area hence solving the afore-mentioned looming issues. Other passive benefits to artificial control is the ability to non-invasively hinder pest multiplication and diseases manifestation by effectively finding the optimum range of conditions ideal for crops but keep unwanted organisms and diseases at a minimum. In addition, the system will have a vast potential of improvement as it collects various parameter data which can be used as a core for artificial intelligence.*
